Cars, taxi cabs luxury buses, mini buses and motorcycles are some of the different alternatives by which you can travel by land in Nigeria.
Inter-city services are provided throughout Nigeria, by companies which operate with Mercedes Benz, luxury buses (luxurious (air-conditioned) buses). This is the alternative to air travel for long distance travel.
Travel by these buses is mainly for long distance traveling between cities and states, especially to and from Abuja and the Eastern part of Nigeria. Some of the major companies providing such land transport service include:
Ekene Dili Chukwu (Nig.) Ltd.
Car Hire is available at most hotels, and airports while Taxi Hire (drop) is available on the roads and virtually everywhere. Taxi fares are negotiable.
Local buses (kombi buses, danfos, (called alupandugbe in Ibadan) and molues) are available throughout the city from morning till late at night. Motorbike transport (Okada) is also popular but risky means of transportation.
Water transport is also used to get to the ports in Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Calabar. Nigeria is located just above the equator with a coastline stretching over 800 miles. And with the ocean to it's south and the hundreds of rivers, lakes and waterfalls that dot the country, water is a common means of transport for many. Private and government owned ferry services operate within the waterways of several states.
